Public Lecture: Iran: the Islamic Republic in Crisis?

The controversial presidential elections in June 2009 uncovered a political crisis without precedent in the Islamic Republic of Iran. In this public lecture, Luciano Zaccar, director of TEIM Election Watch, endeavoured to shed some light on the country's immediate political future and its behaviour in the international system.

TEIM Election Watch and the UAM Cultural Activities Office organised this course headed by Bernabe Lopez Garcia, Professor of Arabic and Islamic Studies, UAM, and Luciano Zaccara Director of the TEIM Election Watch, UAM.

Luciano Zaccara, director of TEIM Election Watch, and Nazanin Amirian, Iranian political analyst, analysed the causes and consequences of the 'green revolution', as well as possible future scenarios for Iran and its citizens after the crisis sparked by the results of the June 12 presidential elections.

Book presentation: "Las elecciones marroquíes de 1960 a hoy"
Presentation of Bernabe Lopez Garcia's book "Las elecciones marroquíes de 1960 a hoy," edited by the editorial Az-Zaman and translated into Arabic by Badia Harrazi, in the National Library in Rabat, Morocco. This is a review of half a century of elections, from the 1960 municipal elections held by Mohammed V up to the 2007 legislative elections.
Bernabe Lopez Garcia is a scientific and academic advisor as well as Director of TEIM Election Watch.

Presentations of TEIM Election Watch in Japan
As part of a stay as visiting professor at Aichi University, Rafael Bustos, scientific coordinator of the TEIM Election Watch, presented the Election Watch project on September 14 to a multidisciplinary group of researchers from Aichi University and other Japanese academic and research centres. A PowerPoint presentation was done using a direct internet connection to the Election Watch website's pages in English. On 17th September he did another presentation, this time at the French Cultural Centre in Tokyo to a group of Japanese political scientists, with whom he had the opportunity to discuss and comment on certain theoretical and methodological aspects of election observation. Finally, Rafael Bustos published an article in Aichi University's magazine, Civilization 21, containing an excerpt of the speech he gave on September 14th in Toyohashi. It will be published shortly.
